In 2021, BEIS and Ofgem jointly consulted on proposals for an expert, impartial Future System Operator (FSO) with responsibilities across both the electricity and gas systems, to drive progress towards net zero while maintaining energy security and minimising costs for consumers.
The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy and Ofgem have published details of the outcome of that consultation, setting out a summary of responses and subsequent key decisions, including the commitment to proceed with the creation of an expert, impartial Future System Operator (FSO).
